The Book of Enoch
An ancient Jewish religious text preserved in full within the Ethiopian Orthodox tradition and excluded from most modern Bibles.
The Dead Sea Scrolls
Fragments of multiple manuscripts of Enoch were discovered among the Dead Sea Scrolls at Qumran.
The Watchers
The Book of Enoch describes beings called Watchers who descend to Earth and share forbidden knowledge. What these accounts meant to their ancient authors remains a matter of interpretation.
The Nephilim
Genesis 6 refers to figures called the Nephilim. The Book of Enoch develops a more elaborate tradition connecting giants with the Watchers. Scholars read both passages differently.
Ethiopia
The complete text of Enoch survived in Ge'ez within the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, where it is treated as scripture.

Daniel Mercer, his investigation, the anonymous messages he receives, and the central conspiracy of ENOCH are fictional.
